When fire strikes, GET OUT, and close the door behind you. If a fire starts in your apartment and you evacuate and leave your apartment door open you could be contributing to the rapid spread of smoke and fire thereby making it impossible for other occupants to escape.

The Lynn Fire Department recommends that you always sleep with bedroom doors closed. This could buy you precious extra escape time when you are awakened by your smoke detectors.
